Vacation planning can’t start soon enough, and in 2024, there are plenty of days off to be had with clever planning.

If you plan cleverly, you can significantly extend your vacation in 2024 and even double the number of days off. The ÖGB has put together an overview for this year for all those who don’t usually have to work at weekends and on public holidays.

Tips for vacation planning in 2024: How to make the most of the public holidays
Right at the start of the new year, there are nine days off from December 30 to January 7, with just four vacation days. In February and March, we can then expect a longer dry spell in terms of public holidays, but Easter is right at the beginning of April. If you take time off from March 30 to April 7, you get nine days off with just four vacation days.

Pure relaxation is then possible in May, as there are four public holidays within five weeks: Those who invest four vacation days from April 27 to May 5 get nine days off. Ascension Day is on May 9 and, as always, a Thursday; if you take Friday off, there is a 3-day working week and an extra-long weekend, according to ÖGB planning. There are nine days off around Whit Monday (May 20) if you take four vacation days from May 18 to 26. Corpus Christi on Thursday, May 30, also offers a long weekend. With just one vacation day on the window day, you have four days off.

The next chance to take time off comes in August. Four vacation days from August 10 to 18 allow nine days off around Assumption Day (August 15). If you only choose the window day, you also have an extended weekend.

At the beginning of November, All Saints’ Day offers a tempting vacation opportunity: if you take time off from October 28 to 31, you get a total of nine days off. At the end of the year, you can then go all out once again, as December is a great time to plan your 2024 vacation.

Christmas and New Year’s Eve are very convenient this year, thanks to the leap year. The 25th and 26th of December fall on a Wednesday and Thursday, and with three vacation days, you can take a nine-day break from December 21 to 29. If you invest seven days’ vacation until January 6, 2025, you can relax for 17 days.
